Seminar on Legal Support for Migrants was held at ADC Memorial
On the 28th August a seminar was held, organised by ADC Memorial in the frame of the project on "Legal support for migrants and representatives of national minorities in North-West Russia" (supported by Sida). Migrants working in St. Petersburg took part in it.
Struggle Against Segregation and Discrimination of Roma Children at Schools: the First Results.
In 2009, parents of Roma children from Nizhnie Vyazovye village, Tatarstan Republic addressed ADC MEMORIAL with a request to render assistance in protection of children's rights to education. The parents complained about the quality of education (the children had difficulties in reading and maths problems after completion of 4th and even 5th grades) and about the schooling of all Roma children of different ages in one classroom.
In August, 2009 ADC MEMORIAL addressed the Department of Education of Zelenodolsky district with a request to draw attention to the problems of realization of Roma children's rights to education and specifically to segregation of Roma children in the local school of Nizhnie Vyazovye.

More...Within the framework of Geschichtswerkstatt Europa and with a support of the Foundation «Remembrance, responsibility, future», Antidiscrimination Center Memorial has commenced an international project «The National-Socialist Genocide Inflicted Upon the Roma - Discovering Vanished Traces of Memory». The project is planned for July-August, 2010. Students from Russia and Germany will take part in the project. They will meet on August, 2nd, 2010 in Poland, on the International Remembrance Day of Roma Victims of the Holocaust and will visit Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and State Museum which is located on the territory of the former concentration camp. On the way back to Russia, the project's participants will visit another site of the most notorious massacre Babi Yar in Kiev. In Russia the students will visit Pskov and Smolensk regions in order to take interviews and photos of the victims and visit the sites where Roma people have been murdered. They will meet with surviving eyewitnesses of those terrible events. The intended focus relies on the meetings with the survivors. Selected oral interviews with Roma people will be recorded, published in the special brochure, and presented in a Press Conference.

The interviews for qualified students took place at ADC Memorial
The Roma Education Fund Scholarship Programmes (REF/SP) and "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" Foundation announced the seventh year of Law and Humanities Programme (LHP) for eligible Romani students at the university level in Moldova, Ukraine and Russia for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. The funds for Law and Humanities Programme come from the Remembrance, Responsibility and Future Foundation and the Roma Education Fund. ADC MEMORIAL is a Programme Country Coordinator in Russia.
On June 22nd ADC MEMORIAL conducted the interviews for qualified students to receive scholarship from the Roma Educational Fund. Applications from 16 candidates were accepted, 10 female and 6 male students applied to the programme. The applicants of this year are students of higher educational institutions of Moscow, Smolensk, Pskov, Tula, Tolyatti and Saratov. Most of these students are receiving an education in the fields of Jurisprudence and Management and some of them study Humanities. All applicants have passed interviews excellently and have been approved by the committee for the scholarship.
Constitutional court defended Children’s Right to Housing.
The Constitutional Court declared that paragraph 4 of article 292 of the Civil Code is unconstitutional. This paragraph allows parents to dispose of the premises that provides the only housing for their child.
In its judgment the Constitutional Court has cited the European Court practice for reasoning the priority of the child's welfare and noted the importance of the realization of the right for housing in order to provide children with a dignified life and development.
